My inspiration is derived from being outside, walking in the landscape. I'm fascinated by the dynamic of clouds to horizon...depth, shadow, highlights of colour as light travels over fields, or over the sea. Ridges of colour on a leaf, boundary lines of fields, the deep shadowed green within woods, offset by shafts of sunlight.

Working outside under a fast-moving sky, brings a wonderful immediacy, while painting. Later, those references that seem to me to capture an essence of a place and a particular time or light, are brought together in paint in an attempt to hold that original dynamic as I first experienced it.
